You've no doubt seen the information on making infill planes on the main site. I usually encourage people to make a smaller plane first, as a "practice run" for a larger plane (though this is when using the dovetailed method of construction). If you use a casting for the body then much of the process of making an infill plane is simplified. It also goes without saying that getting a machined casting requires less work than cleaning up a rough casting yourself -- though a rough casting is cheaper to buy.
